Oncology Research with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
The Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) IRB has executed a master reliance agreement with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (BMH) to serve as the IRB of Record for certain research. For studies using an external IRB for review the reliance agreements will be negotiated and managed by the WCM IRB Office.
The table below outlines the scenarios for which either the WCM IRB or an external IRB will be used as the IRB of Record for BMH oncology studies, and the procedure for reliance request and IRB submission. For non-oncology research, follow the guidance outlined in the WCM sIRB SOP.
Study Scenario | IRB of Record | Reliance Request | WCM IRB Submission | BMH Local Submission |
---|---|---|---|---|
NY-P BMH alone -OR- NYP BMH in collaboration with WCM | WCM IRB | A reliance request is not needed. | The PI or designee must submit the standard IRB Initial Submission form to WCM IRB (via WRG-HS) with BMH listed as a site, and WCM as the IRB of Record selected. | A submission to the BMH IRB for local acknowledgment is not needed. |
Institutions outside of this agreement in collaboration with NYP BMH alone, or both WCM (including NCI studies) | External IRB | The WCM trial PI or WCM designee must submit a request to the WCM IRB through the Qualtrics Portal and can reflect both sites or BMH alone. | The PI or designee must submit the Non-WCM Initial Submission form to WCM IRB (via WRG-HS) with BMH listed as a site to record local acknowledgment. | A submission to the BMH IRB for local acknowledgment is not needed. |
Industry-funded and Industry-sponsored | Commercial IRB | The WCM trial PI or WCM designee must submit a request to the WCM IRB through the Qualtrics Portal and can reflect both sites or BMH alone. | The PI or designee must submit the Non-WCM Initial Submission form in WRG-HS to WCM IRB with BMH listed as a site to record local acknowledgment. | A submission to the BMH IRB for local acknowledgment is not needed. |
