IRB News: AI Toolkit Announcement

The Human Research Protections (HRP) office is excited to announce our new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Toolkit!

1. AI and Human Subjects Research Guidance - this document provides a list of special considerations for human subject research projects using AI. Please reference this guidance when planning your human subjects research activities.
2. AI Supplemental Form - Effective immediately, all human subjects research using AI must also complete the AI supplemental form in addition to the Institutional Review Board Application (IRA).  This form and ICF template language (when applicable) is required for all new initial submissions as of the date of this announcement.  For existing approved studies, upon subsequent submission, the HRP office will assess on a case-by-case basis to determine if the supplemental form and/or additional ICF language with participant notification will be required.
3. AI Informed Consent Template Language - Effective immediately, AI specific informed consent form template language will also be required as applicable.  For existing approved studies, upon subsequent submission, the HRP office will assess on a case-by-case basis to determine if the supplemental form and/or additional ICF language with participant notification will be required.

• Continuing Review
  Submit for continuing review 60-90 days prior to expiration to ensure there is no
  lapse in study approval.
